Practical Applications of the Epic EMR Genomics Module and Reporting Tools for Genetic Counselors

OBJECTIVES

​

  1. Identify tools and applications with the Epic Genomics Module that can be utilized by Genetic Counselors with practical tips on implementing at your center.

  2. Discuss clinical utility and outcomes using Epic integrated ordering and resulting, pedigree tool, Genomic Indicators and reporting tools to identify patient cohorts with case examples.

  3. Identify reporting capabilities of Epic Slicer Dicer, Reporting Workbench and foundational dashboards that support administrative monitoring, demonstration of health equity,  and quality improvement.

  4. Discuss emerging Epic tools such as Look Alikes, Synopsis and Copy Sibling.

  5. Outline the downstream benefits of discrete genomic results into patients' records and how to leverage this data for improved patient care and return on investment.

More about Karen Huelsman, MS, CGC

 

As Precision Oncology Lead for TriHealth Precision Medicine, Karen collaborates with multidisciplinary leadership groups, serves as clinical champion for EMR integrations with 8 lab vendors, leads Molecular Tumor Board, and oversees Precision Oncology testing with a team of 40 oncology providers. She is a Licensed Genetic Counselor specializing in hereditary cancer predisposition and genomic-informed management with over 22 years of experience in oncology genomics. In the past 3 years, she has delivered 27 national and regional presentations relating to Epic EMR tools and reporting. Karen serves on the Epic Genomic Steering Board and several “Brain Trust” groups working to better visualize genomic tests.  She also serves as co-chair of the EMR Advisory group for ACCC (Association of Cancer Care Centers).  Karen’s professional mission is to provide executive level genomic-guided care with health equity for all patients and their families. Karen has a strong passion for applications of Epic reporting tools and discrete genomic data and she wants to empower other GCs to use these tools effectively.
